Why do people tend to think engineers are smart?

I don't know about you people, but my family members don't think so. Now on a serios note most people in our society thinks that Engineers are smarter people because........ they are smart.

If you are around 30 years of age and an engineer, you only think that engineers are not that much smart because you think updating a laptop or changing an electric switch is not that tough but if you think from a person point of view who didn't study science after high school it is a big thing.

Many time we engineers are the only people who thinks that engineers are not that much smarter. In todays' time when technology entered in all aspect of our life from cooking food on induction to using phone to pay almost every bill, anyone who can use these smart devices easily are smart and we are among those.

So, at last human are not good in judging themself and that's why we think we are not smarter. Yes, I am not saying engineers are the smartest people but in the case of using modern devices and technologies they are smarter than most of the people.
